Cellulite Removal

“Love this cellulite!” – said no woman ever.  Cellulite dimples are an unfortunate side effect of the way our skin and underlying adipose layers are held in place.  Any change to the system including laxity, fullness, or swelling can accentuate the tethering spots. Think of it similar to the “tufting buttons” often seen on sofas or chairs.  The body’s natural tethering ligaments are unforgiving, and if the tissue surrounding them swells or falls with gravity the end result is a dimpled appearance. Don’t be fooled by creams and rollers that claim to cure cellulite.  These may temporarily soften the appearance but they are no long-term solution. Plastic surgeons have thus tried numerous ways to better address this difficult problem. Liposuction may help reduce some volume and in select cases decrease the tethering and dimpling.  Similarly, weight loss will thin the adipose layer and can reduce the strain on short, tethering ligaments. In most cases, however, the only real solution is to divide the ligaments themselves. This procedure can be done by our surgeons in the office, under local anesthesia, without scars.  A significant reduction in dimpling can be achieved with minimal downtime, helping to restore your confidence and appearance.

CELLULITE REMOVAL TECHNIQUE:

Our surgeons will mark all of the dimpled areas of concern to be treated during this session. Local anesthesia will be infiltrated into the area to ease any discomfort. The ligaments will be released while you relax and listen to music. Postoperative compression will be applied to help minimize bruising and swelling.

RECOVERY FROM CELLULITE REMOVAL

Compression is key to help minimize bruising and swelling that comes from the release of the tethering ligaments. Our surgeons recommend you have several pairs of tight compression shorts or pants to wear for the first 1-2 weeks. Immediately after the procedure, the wonderful Chesterfield Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery staff will place absorbent pads and ACE wraps over the treated areas. Your compression shorts can be worked over these wraps or waited until after showering the following day. You will want to minimize anything that can increase bruising such as straining, exercise, and heavy lifting for about a week afterward.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you Have a Question?

Each area and patient will be different, as we all have differing numbers of and strain on the tethering ligaments. Release of some areas can cause new spots or dimples to occur, but this is fairly minimal. Overall the vast majority of the dimples can be released, sometimes over a few sessions.
