Panniculectomy

This patient suffered from a lower abdominal apron of excess tissue and residual adiposity that caused skin ulcerations, rashes, and infections. She underwent a functional panniculectomy, or amputation of the lower abdominal tissues only. This was not a cosmetic operation or tummy tuck (no muscle tightening or belly button movement), and no liposuction was performed. Overall she had 16.9 pounds of excess abdominal tissue removed! She is seen here 4 months postoperatively with no more tissue overhang and resolution of her rashes.
