This male patient lost nearly 180 pounds after his laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. This left him with a large lower abdominal apron of excess tissue that caused skin ulcerations, rashes, and infections. He underwent a functional panniculectomy, or amputation of the lower abdominal tissues only. This was not a cosmetic operation or tummy tuck, and without liposuction nor undermining and advancement of his remaining abdominal tissues. He is seen here 2 months postoperatively.
